Travel Tips

All international tourists (except Indian, Bangladeshi, and Maldivian citizens) require a visa before arrival.
Visa is arranged by a licensed Bhutanese tour operator after full payment of the trip.
You need a valid passport with at least 6 months validity.

Spring (March–May) and Autumn (Sept–Nov) for clear skies, festivals, and ideal weather.
Winter (Dec–Feb) is good for cultural tours and seeing Black-necked Cranes.
Summer (June–Aug) is monsoon season—lush landscapes but occasional rain.

Bhutan charges an SDF for all international tourists.
USD 100 per person per night (as of 2024).
This fee goes toward environmental conservation and free education/healthcare in Bhutan.

Weather varies by altitude:
Warm in valleys, cold in mountains.
Pack layers, a warm jacket for evenings, and comfortable walking shoes.
For monastery visits: modest dress (no shorts, sleeveless tops).

Independent travel is not allowed for most tourists.
